Transfer of the Mother House to Nicolet in 1872
The young religious women lived through a difficult period of adjustment after the death of Father Jean Harper. The transfer of the Mother House from St.Gregoire to Nicolet was a determining event for the Congregation.
Aware that spiritual direction would be available to the Sisters because of the presence of the seminary personnel and faced with the need to expand the residence in St. Gregoire, the Congregation decided to transfer the Mother House to Nicolet. This change was approved by Mgr. Louis François Lafleche.
The Nicolet foundation, in 1872, gave rise to hesitations, to oppositions and to questions that persisted throughout the history of the Congregation for many years. This transfer, however, favored the development of the Congregation.
In order to meet the evolving needs of society and of the Church, education became more diversified : teacher training colleges, billingual commercial courses for young Franco-American women, domestic arts courses, schools of music and diction classical courses, visual arts studios and tapestry workshops.
